Microsoft Cloud Modernization

Moving from server-centric infrastructure toward Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune without breaking the applications that still needed a domain.

The situation

An organization ran aging on-premises servers for files, print and authentication, with staff increasingly working remotely over a VPN that was the source of most support tickets. Leadership wanted to reduce server dependence without disrupting line-of-business applications.

01

Sequence

  • Inventory of every dependency on on-premises Active Directory
  • Entra ID identity, group and licensing structure designed first
  • MFA and Conditional Access enforced before removing VPN reliance
  • File data restructured into SharePoint and OneDrive by how it is used
  • Intune enrollment and compliance policies for devices
  • Minimal on-premises footprint retained for remaining legacy needs
02

Result pattern

Remote access stopped depending on a VPN tunnel, provisioning a new machine became an unattended process, and the remaining server footprint was reduced deliberately rather than by discovering what broke.
