Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Consulting

Hands-on experience supporting phased Business Central implementations in manufacturing and distribution environments — purchasing through production, warehousing and finance.

What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Business Central is Microsoft's cloud ERP for small and mid-sized companies. It runs finance, purchasing, inventory, sales, warehousing and production in one system, with dimensions for reporting, integration to Microsoft 365 and Power BI, and support for multi-location operations. It replaces the combination of an aging ERP, spreadsheets and disconnected tools most growing manufacturers accumulate.

01

Where implementations go wrong

The software is rarely the problem. Implementations struggle when the current process was never documented, when item and BOM data is inconsistent, when dimensions are designed for accounting alone, and when the plant is asked to change five workflows on the same Monday.

Phasing matters. Purchasing and receiving stabilized first, then inventory accuracy, then production, then reporting — each phase with people trained on the part they touch.

Areas we work in

  • Purchasing, vendors and receiving workflows
  • Item setup, units of measure and inventory accuracy
  • Production orders, BOMs and routings
  • Warehouse locations, bins and put-away/pick flows
  • Sales orders, shipping and invoicing
  • Finance, posting groups and dimensions
  • Multi-location and multi-entity configuration
  • Reporting, Power BI connections and user training
03

IT and ERP are the same project

Business Central runs on the network, the identity platform and the devices we already manage. Scanners need Wi-Fi that holds in the aisles. Users need Entra ID accounts, MFA and licensing. Reporting needs data anyone can trust.

Most consultancies stop at the application boundary and most MSPs stop before it. Understanding both sides is why our ERP work tends to land.

Common questions

Straight answers, no sales theater.

Is Business Central good for manufacturing?

It handles discrete manufacturing well — BOMs, routings, production orders, warehouse flows and multi-location inventory — particularly for small and mid-sized manufacturers already using Microsoft 365.

Business Central vs a traditional on-premises ERP?

Business Central trades deep legacy customization for a maintained cloud platform, native Microsoft 365 and Power BI integration, and a predictable upgrade path. Heavily customized legacy systems can do things it does not, at a maintenance cost most mid-sized companies no longer want to carry.

Can Machina IT help with Business Central?

Yes — process work, configuration, phased rollout support, reporting, integrations and user training, alongside the infrastructure and identity work the platform depends on.
